This lecture-recital will take a closer look at three pairs of solo-piano works to illustrate the various techniques and effects that different composers have successfully incorporated to achieve this creative task. The presentation will hope to shed light on an area of piano literature that hasn't been fully explored and provide teachers with new and refreshing teaching and programming ideas.

Location: Home of Mika Fujita
Presenter: Evan Mitchell, Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Florida
Program: Methods to Motivate Students
Many piano teachers, especially those who operate independent studios, face the challenge of retaining students. Students and their parents need to feel that there is measurable improvement throughout the year. We propose to present methods of successful and consistent improvement. We will draw on educational literature in order to present methods for both short-term and long-term motivation. Join us and we discover how to turn students into 'perpetual motivation machines.'

Miss Leyva directs an ongoing research project on the prevention of health related biomechanical issues of pianists and students. She will present ground breaking principles which have been shown to improve technique while avoiding injury.
